at the Woodstock Playhouse in the summer of 1945

by Noël Coward
A marvelous smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, this much-revived classic from the playwright of 'Private Lives' offers up fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, re-married but haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, the clever and insistent Elvira who is called up by a visiting “happy medium,” one Madame Arcati. As the (worldly and un-) personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed, “passes over,” joins Elvira, and the two “blithe spirits” haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity.
Blithe Spirit was first produced on Broadway at the Morosco Theatre in New York City on November 5, 1941. It was directed and produced by John C. Wilson.
This performance is brought to the stage of the iconic Woodstock Playhouse featuring the Woodstock Playhouse Summer Theatre Cast 2021, a regional company of rising-professional performers widely acclaimed for some of the finest performances in our NY & Tri-State region.
